"html": "<p>Here's a quick weekend assemblage of a hack that might be of use to someone:</p>\n<p>I recently switched to a <a href=\"http://www.palm.com/us/products/zire/\">Palm Zire</a> from a Handspring Visor--which itself was <a href=\"http://www.decafbad.com/blog/2005/06/14/gadget_flashback\">a downgrade from a Treo 600</a>. The Zire was a bit of a lateral move from the Visor, since the Zire is rechargeable and more pocketable, but has less storage and a screen with tinier eye-strainy pixels. (Actually, the product page I linked here shows the Zire 21, whereas what I have is the discontinued classic Zire.)</p>\n<p>Anyway, I've been idly poking at making this thing more useful as my take-along brain bucket. The out-of-box tools--Palm Desktop, etal--have never quite worked for me, so I wanted to see what might <em>actually</em> help me get some use out of the thing. So far, it turns out that it ends up being most convenient when I use it as a glorified electronic notepad, a <a href=\"http://www.hipsterpda.com/\">Hipster PDA</a> with a USB socket.</p>\n<p>I've thrown together a combination of <a href=\"http://homepage.mac.com/wis/Personal/programs/NoteTaker/NoteTaker.html\">MacNoteTaker</a>, <a href=\"http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/\">Markdown</a>, <a href=\"http://www.roaringpenguin.com/penguin/open_source_remind.php\">Remind</a>, <a href=\"http://www.splasm.com/products/productdasher.html\">Dasher</a>, and <a href=\"http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/developer/shellwatcher.html\">ShellWatcher</a> to implement my own idea-dump and to-do conduits into my PowerBook. </p>\n<p>The nice thing about <a href=\"http://homepage.mac.com/wis/Personal/programs/NoteTaker/NoteTaker.html\">MacNoteTaker</a> is that it simply syncs text files. From there, it's easy to route things through <a href=\"http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/\">Markdown</a> and <a href=\"http://www.roaringpenguin.com/penguin/open_source_remind.php\">Remind</a>. </p>\n<p>I was using <a href=\"http://www.43folders.com/2005/06/dashboard_widge.html\">Nick Vargish's Remind Widget</a> before <a href=\"http://www.decafbad.com/blog/2005/07/05/exocortex_stroke\">my hard drive crash</a>, but since then the download seems to have gone AWOL. So, <a href=\"http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/developer/shellwatcher.html\">ShellWatcher</a> it is, running <code>~/local/bin/remind</code> to update my Dashboard reminders on a regular basis. To keep these reminders in my face throughout the day, I've got <a href=\"http://www.splasm.com/products/productdasher.html\">Dasher</a> set to bring the Dashboard up whenever I walk away for more than 5 minutes.</p>\n<p>As for plain old ideas, I've got a <code>00-random.txt</code> file I maintain between the PowerBook and <a href=\"http://homepage.mac.com/wis/Personal/programs/NoteTaker/NoteTaker.html\">MacNoteTaker</a>. This is in <a href=\"http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/\">Markdown</a> format, and I occasionally view it via a filter CGI in my browser. I'm considering plastering it up on my Dashboard via a browser-refresh widget also. Eventually, these ideas migrate into <a href=\"http://www.eastgate.com/Tinderbox/\">Tinderbox</a> or a personal wiki.</p>\n<p>For my next productivity micro-project, I'm thinking of setting up an email gateway to let my fiancée email me honey-do lists that'll get merged in with my reminders...</p>\n<div id=\"comments\" class=\"comments archived-comments\"><h3>Archived Comments</h3>\n<ul class=\"comments\">\n<li class=\"comment\" id=\"comment-221082876\">\n<div class=\"meta\">\n<div class=\"author\">\n<a class=\"avatar image\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http://webseitz.fluxent.com/wiki\"><img src=\"http://www.gravatar.com/avatar.php?gravatar_id=8157a5907b244071cda98ba5aa7a9635&amp;size=32&amp;default=http://mediacdn.disqus.com/1320279820/images/noavatar32.png\" width=\"\" height=\"\"></a>\n<a class=\"avatar name\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http://webseitz.fluxent.com/wiki\">Bill Seitz</a>\n</div>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#comment-221082876\" class=\"permalink\"><time datetime=\"2005-08-09T13:50:46\">2005-08-09T13:50:46</time></a></p>\n</div>\n\n\n<div class=\"content\">So the focus in this posting is on the unstructured-note area, not on Address Books, Calendar, etc., right?\nI'm pretty sure there's a little wiki that runs on Palm, just layering name-clickability on top of notes.\nI just got PikiPiki running on my Zaurus.
